Exploring the LLM world
I’m diving into an exciting new chapter: exploring Large Language Models (LLMs). If the term doesn’t sound familiar, perhaps “ChatGPT” rings a bell. Still unsure? A quick online search will clear that up.
Having used LLMs for daily tasks for a while, I’m now ready to take a deeper dive. My upcoming research will make extensive use of these models, and I recently discovered just how powerful they can be for the areas I’m studying. Is this a good or a bad thing? Let’s break it down.
The Challenges: It might be a double-edged sword. On one hand, the sheer advancement of these models means I’ll have to push even harder to find state-of-the-art solutions for my research. This adds complexity to my work—no surprises there; it’s a PhD, after all! The next step? A serious conversation with my advisor to map out the path forward.
The Benefits: On the flip side, LLMs could be a massive help with various research tasks: tool development, coding, literature reviews—you name it. I’m cautiously optimistic that they’ll streamline some of the most time-consuming aspects of my work. Fingers crossed!
At the end of the day, the first year of a PhD comes with its fair share of hurdles, and perhaps the biggest one is overcoming procrastination. The real challenge? Forcing myself to READ, READ, READ—until I can’t read anymore.
Bismillah, just like it said in Quran. ٱقۡرَأۡ
